The contract for the expansion of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service’s National Headquarters building was awarded to EllisDon Corporation on March 2, 2009. Funding for this Major Crown Project contract valued at $69,475,000 was announced in the 2007 federal budget.
The company EllisDon was one of 10 firms invited to submit tenders, in reply to a Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) Request for Tender. The procurement methodology in this case was design, bid and build. According to PWGSC, the department responsible for managing the project, it is expected that the construction will take approximately 26 months to complete.
The design of this five-story addition meets the Leadership Environmental Engineering Design (LEED) “Silver” designation through water efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and the use of low-emitting and/or recycled materials. Environmental and security studies have been carried out to ensure that the new tower will not have a detrimental impact on the surrounding environment or neighbourhood.
