CSIS focusses on its own version of Olympic Gold - safety and security at the Games

In February 2010, thousands of athletes will descend upon Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (OPWG) with a common goal of winning a gold medal. At CSIS, we are focussed on our own version of Olympic gold – a safe and secure Games.

The Games are considered one of the largest security operations in Canadian history. CSIS is working with the RCMP - the designated security lead - as well as numerous other Canadian government departments to ensure this event is as safe as possible.

From our work with local law enforcement agencies to our cooperation with foreign security services, our role is to investigate threats to the security of Canada and Canadians and report those threats to the Government of Canada.

The Service is also working in collaboration with the RCMP, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and the Canada Border Services Agency, to provide accreditation to anyone requiring access to secure sites at the Games. This includes athletes, workers, volunteers, guests and media.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are one of the largest events ever held in Canada, and CSIS is proud to take part in this historic occasion.
