Job Summary

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is seeking the services of an Offset Pressman within the Material Management team that will be responsible for operating a Heidelberg Printmaster GTO 52 two-colour offset press with perfecter, and the Computer to Plate (CTP) system for the printing of the various forms and publications.

The functions may involve the following:

  • Analyse and coordinate with the clientele the complexity of the requirements by reviewing the layout and by advising them on the final set-up of the production.
  • Administer the Computer to Plate (CTP) system by sending the electronic file to the plate burner to create the desired plate for the press and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the system by performing daily checks to ensure optimum equipment performance is achieved.
  • Evaluate, compare and correct the initial impression as per established client production request by controlling and maintaining the numerous press variable elements to ensure image impressions consistency.
  • Adjust and control the press to the desired paper stock to ensure correct flow to obtain precise registration.
  • Perform a wide variety of duties to set up and operate the offset sheetfed press, and to print a variety of orders from one (1) color to full color process. - Analyse the ink sequence by evaluating the colour management to facilitate the printing process resulting in a quality product. Also, mixing ink to achieve specific Pantone Matching System (PMS) colours according to formula.
  • Inspect and conduct necessary mechanical maintenance and repairs on the press by reviewing the manufacturer milestone recommendations and by evaluating and investigating press problems.
  • Calculate and determine the paper type, style, quantity, weight and size by establishing and selecting the proper paper to ensure maximum output and minimum waste to meet client production request. Also maintain and order necessary press supplies by reviewing work orders’ information.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 30 kg or push heavy carts over carpets.

Education

Community college diploma two (2) years in a related field and three (3) years related experience; or Community college certificate one (1) year in printing or a related field and four (4) years related experience; or High School diploma and five (5) years related experience.
* Any higher level of education could be recognized as related experience.

Related Experience

The candidate should possess experience working on a two-colour (minimum) press, producing four-colour process and in the operation and basic maintenance requirements of single and double head press and related printing equipment.

Experience

  • A minimum of one (1) year recent* experience in the use of a densitometer in reproducing process and multicolour, prestige quality, and printed materials.
  • A minimum of one (1) year recent* experience in the use of paper types, inks, varnishes, ink reducers and other supplies used in printing.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in keeping routine work records.

* Recent experience is defined as having been acquired in the last eight (8) years.

Who Can Apply

Canadian citizens residing in Canada for the past ten (10) years.

Security Requirements

Candidates must have no criminal record, must not have used illegal drugs in the past twelve (12) months and be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. This process involves a security interview, a polygraph examination and a background investigation that includes credit and financial verifications.

Language Requirements

Bilingual imperative (BBB).

Salary Range

$48,060 - $58,480 per year
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment Conditions

One (1) year term with a possibility of an extension or a permanent position.
