Job Summary

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is seeking a highly motivated and professional Communications Officer to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment as a team member within the Communications Branch (CB). The Communications Officer is responsible for providing communications advice and support to Service employees.

Under the direction of the Chief, Communication Services, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • conceiving and implementing communications plans in support of Service priorities;
  • writing and editing of public communications material;
  • contributing to the content, production, and administration of the Service’s communications tools;
  • liaising with HQ branches and regions to obtain information for internal and external communications or to help programs in communicating specific initiatives;
  • organizing and promoting communications projects and special events;
  • analysing and summarizing media information.

Education and Experience

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. journalism, communications or marketing) and six (6) years of related experience; or three (3) years’ community college diploma in a related field (e.g. journalism, communications or marketing) and seven (7) years of related experience; or two (2) years’ community college diploma in a related field (e.g. journalism, communications or marketing) and eight (8) years of related experience.

Related Experience

Demonstrated experience in conceiving and implementing communications plans; researching, writing and editing articles; providing advice to senior managers and managing projects and organizing special events.

Desirable Experience

Experience in media relations is an asset.

Security Requirements

Candidates must have no criminal record, must not have used illegal drugs in the last (12) twelve months and be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. This process involves a security interview, a background investigation, a polygraph, a background investigation that includes credit and financial verifications.

Language Requirements

Bilingual imperative (C/B/B)

Salary Range

$69,720 to $84,840 per year. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment Conditions

Indeterminate position with a one (1) year probation.
