Who We Are

Diversity works!

One of the best ways of understanding the Service is to look at the people who make up the organization.

Our employees come from all areas of Canadian society and perform many different roles. Our workforce includes intelligence officers, analysts, computer scientists, technicians, linguists and others at our headquarters in Ottawa, in regional offices across Canada and at offices abroad.

CSIS employees are a reflection of the diverse population we serve. For example:

  • our workforce is evenly represented by men and women;
  • collectively they speak approximately 95 languages;
  • thirty-eight percent are francophone;
  • nearly 10 percent are self-identified visible minorities;
  • thirty-nine percent of intelligence officers are women; and
  • more than one-third of intelligence officers speak a language other than French or English.

The Service is always looking for talented and skilled individuals to join our team. Diversity is not only part of the Service’s culture, it is a core business strategy. Our objective is to have a workforce which is representative of the Canadian mosaic and our programs and policies are designed to foster diversity and inclusion. In this context, CSIS actively supports and implements the Official Languages and Employment Equity Program. This is done in accordance with the Official Languages Act, the Employment Equity Act, their regulations as well as the Services’ policies.
